Survivor Series Predictions

A quick note to you to say that, if you enjoy this blog, please share it with your friends, or even the people you hate if they like wrestling. More discussion from these posts means you are more likely to see new content on this site. Plus it makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside.

So in case you didn’t know, Survivor Series is tonight. Yep, I know. Yes it has only been 3 weeks since Hell In A Cell, you’re right. Yes that shorter time to build the event definitely had made the WWE look like idiots who are booking shows as they happen and don’t understand the concept of long term planning. Yes we do have 6 matches tonight including the pre-show.

Pre-show: Team CoBro vs 3 Man Band (Heath Slater and Jinder Mahal w/ Drew McIntyre)

I’m assuming Drew will be at ringside here after having a tough couple of weeks. Originally this was Team CoBro vs the 3MB, then it became Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel vs 3MB, and then it returned to what was originally advertised. Confused? I think it’s telling that at no point have Slater and Mahal not been in the match. That, along with the 3MB being new as a team, means that this is quite a simple one for me to call. 3MB will win to give them a kick start in the division.

Prediction: Winner – 3 Man Band

Divas Championship Match: Kaitlyn vs Eve (C)

Is this the blowoff to this feud? Probably not. WWE seems determine to drag this out for as long as possible. Perhaps after these two finally stop meeting each other we will see AJ become a more regular member of the female roster, though that probably won’t happen until the AJ-Vicky angle is at least nearing conclusion. Unless Vicky wants to feed AJ to Eve to punish her, and the title gets involved. But until then we’re stuck with these two and Layla. What more can be said about the Divas division that hasn’t been said already?

Prediction: Winner and STILL Divas Champion – Eve

United States Championship Match: R-Truth vs Antonio Cesaro (C)

I like the way Cesaro has been built up. As a European with the United States Championship, it makes sense that he would brag to Americans about it, especially since he has beaten quite a few Americans in the process. It should then be a point of priority for the American superstars to beat him to shut him up, and this is what we are seeing with this match up. Simple, but effective storytelling. It he keeps this up much longer, it’s going to be a big thing for whoever beats him. But I don’t think that’ll be R-Truth.

Prediction: Winner and STILL US Champion – Antonio Cesaro

Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match: Team Foley vs Team Ziggler

Moving on quickly from the personnel debacle, this match could have been so much more. Looking at who’s left in each team, there’s plenty of opportunity for each side to display conflict that could raise doubts about each side’s ability to co-exist. On Team Ziggler, Ziggler could boast to Del Rio about how Fel Rio couldn’t win the World Heavyweight Championship over the summer, but Dolph is practically guaranteed to win it whenever he wants. Barrett wouldn’t trust anyone, and highlight how he turned down the chance to be on the team in the first place while being angry that this wasn’t what he signed up for. And Team Rhodes Scholars would think they are more intelligent than everyone else and try to put forward gameplans to everyone else who wouldn’t buy them.

As for Team Foley, most of them have feuded with each other in the past. Orton feuded with Kingston a few years back, had a match with Kane at Wrestlemania this year and lost the WWE Championship to The Miz. Kingston only just ended a feud with Miz over the IC title a week or two ago and has no reason to trust him. Miz called Bryan a wannabe superstar for the first year of his WWE career. Team Hell No’s entire gimmick is based around them being dysfunctional. It should be Foley’s job to try and make everybody work together for the greater good, which was originally his personal grudge against CM Punk and now seems to be missing from the match.

Team Foley still doesn’t trust Miz, that much was evident on Smackdown two nights ago. But for me, knowing what could have been, that isolated incident just isn’t enough. This is the problem with fans’ perception of WWE these days – not disappointment of the poor quality of the product, but disillusionment that they aren’t doing more. As for this
match, I think the faces go over, possibly setting up a cash in later on for retribution. The survivors? I think Orton and Miz.

Prediction: Winner – Team Foley

World Heavyweight Championship Match: Sheamus vs Big Show (C)

This was surprisingly match of the night at Hell in a Cell, but the pressure will now be on for them to replicate the effort. That’s why I think a stipulation could have been a good idea to give the fans something different to expect, as well as take the pressure off the performers, and there may not be so obvious comparisons. I still expect this to be a good match now though, but Big Show winning the belt last month threw a spanner in the works with a Money In the Bank cash-in still looming on the horizon. Ziggler will probably cash in on a face, but the way Big Show has been booked I just can’t see him having a 3 week title reign.

Prediction: Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion – Big Show

Triple Threat Match for the WWE Championship: John Cena vs Ryback vs CM Punk (C)

The focus here is definitely on the Royal Rumble. The winner here will definitely go on to face The Rock. But while it has seemed certain for months that that person will be CM Punk, recent reports have resurfaced that Cena will win the title and go on to face The Rock at the Rumble, with Punk facing Rock at Wrestlemania. Notice neither of those angles involve Ryback. Creative really have written themselves into a corner here, because now they’re trying to make him look like he’s worthy of being at the main event level – this level. But long term, he’s going to be nowhere to be seen in the title picture. Certainly not until next summer. So how do they keep him looking strong? One option would be to put the belt on Cena and have him continue to feud with Punk through January and February next year, while Cena battles Rock. That’s one option, there are probably countless others. They could do an injury angle to get him out of the way, but since Ryback had legitimately been injured for over a year before returning as the monster he is now I doubt they’ll want to hold him back any longer. They could move him over to the World Title picture, to face the equally formidable Big Show. But that’s not concerning what’s important at this match – what we’ve been told over the last few months should be the focus of the entire company – the WWE Championship. It’s pretty generally accepted that after the Royal Rumble, The Rock will hold the belt again. Will he have done it by defeating the superstar who has held the title for over a year?

Prediction: Winner and STILL WWE Champion – CM Punk.

So there you have it once again. There could be one or two more matches added to the card, but that all depends on how much time the last 3 matches get.

I have a few ideas for new columns floating around, but as yet nothing has translated into a full article. Expect more activity on that side of things over the next month or two.
