Survivor Series 2013 Predictions

It’s time for Survivor Series! Historically one of the “Big 4” PPVs but it really hasn’t felt all that special for a while now. Especially this year. The two “top” matches are just not exciting. There are a couple of others on the show though, and since we’re fast approaching the event itself let’s get straight to it!

Pre-Show: Kofi Kingston vs The Miz

A: So Miz turned heel on Raw. It wasn’t a surprise. He had been working as a heel on the WWE’s recent tour of the UK. A video surfaced online of a promo he cut in Belfast, which I reckon we can expect to see replicated on Raw tomorrow night. It was a good, legitimate, realistic promo. Whether it’ll do much for Miz… I don’t know. He’s fallen so far over the last 2 years that I don’t think the fans really care that he’s now a bad guy. He’ll have to work his way back up the card again, but he’s more likely to do that as a heel than a face. As for the match I think a Miz victory is likely to cement his position as a heel again.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winner – The Miz by pinfall

M: Apparently it should be a big deal that the Miz has gone ‘heel’!!?? To paraphrase “really?” I don’t really care. 6 days apparently is all it takes now to build a heated rivalry in the wwe universe and that’s across the board, not just in the mid card ( or in this case under card). Miz will win after he does something ‘dastardly’ probably using a weapon or distracting the ref.

Matt’s Prediction: Miz to win via pinfall.

Intercontinental Championship: Curtis Axel vs Big E Langston (C)

A: Well, the reign of Axel is over. At least that’s something. It wasn’t good. What does help is when the title is defended regularly, instead of the champion being made to look like a joke. I almost feel sorry for Axel, by all accounts he has the talent and the work ethic to make it big. He’s just been booked horribly. Who’d have thought that being in a faction led by CM Punk, and then managed by Paul Heyman wouldn’t work out? Both of these guys actually have potential, and if they get 10 minutes I would expect a decent match. What Big E showed in NXT was a fundamental ability to connect with the fans, and if his Twitter account is anything to go by, he is a genuinely entertaining guy. It’s natural to have high hopes for him. As for the match, it’s a formality. Big E is never going to lose the title this quickly.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winner and STILL Intercontinental Champion – Big E by pinfall

M: This one could be good. I never thought I’d say that losing Heyman would be the best thing for Axel, but it is! He was always in the shadow and he’s now free to go on alone. Saying that, there’s only one winner here and that’s the champ. He’s getting a push it seems and well due.

Matt’s Prediction : Big E via pinfall.

Divas Elimination Tag Match

A: All the build was to AJ vs Natalya for the Divas Championship, so why do we have JoJo, Eva Marie, Rosa Mendes and Aksana (among others) on PPV? As far as I can see, the best thing from a storyline point of view that will happen is Kaitlyn’s return. She just kind of disappeared after feuding with AJ earlier this year, so it will be good to see one of the better female performers back. With no title on the line, and the return of Total Divas to TV, I would expect the “reality “stars”” to finally come out victorious on PPV.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winners – Team Total Divas by submission (Survivors: Brie and Natalya, Natalya makes AJ submit to the Sharpshooter)

M: My dear god! Why? Why?…………………..Why? They’d be better off calling this match 6 annoying women and Natalya vs 6 annoying women and AJ.

Matt’s Prediction: pfft I usually go AJ but that’s when the title is on the line. I’ll go Natalya’s team. I can’t be assed guessing more.

Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Match

A: By all accounts this should get at least 20 minutes, and be the match of the night. A lot of good talent, with good chemistry, means that anything less than a three star match would be a disappointment. I think this is the toughest match to call on the card. On one hand Mysterio has just come back, so you would think it’s unlikely he would lose. Plus he’s on the same side as the Tag Team Champs, who have been on a bit of a roll lately. On the other hand, the Real Americans eliminating the champs would naturally set up a title match for TLC, and I think The Shield need the win. Rumour has it this match will be used to hint at dissension between The Shield again, and I still believe Reigns has a very bright future. For that reason I can see Reigns being on his own against two or three members of the other team, and coming out victorious.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winners – The Shield and the Real Americans by pinfall (Sole Survivor: Roman Reigns pinning Rey Mysterio)

M: This will be the match of the night and it’s no coincidence that during the past 3 months or so, the best matches have included the tag champs. Cody and Goldust are the best thing about the wwe right now and the biggest draw for me. I love their rivalry with the shield and the only thing that would’ve made this better is if the Wyatt’s were thrown in. The only reason they’re not, I’m convinced, is because it would be too awesome and pull focus from the Orton big show fiasco! Anyway this will be awesome but I sense a heel victory here. The shield have their 1 year anniversary and the good guys have been winning a lot recently so I’ll go with the shields team to win. A lot of good tag teams on the go right now and to have 4 of them in the same match is epic. Not to mention throwing in Rey Mysterio. I like the way the division is unfolding. Bring it on!

Matt’s Prediction: The Shield and Real Americans vin via pinfall after Seth pins Cody.

CM Punk and Daniel Bryan vs The Wyatt Family (Luke Harper and Erick Rowan)

A: This is interesting. It’s a step up for the Wyatts to be working with two top faces, but is it too much of a step down for Punk and Bryan? Well, yes. But looking at the alternatives, the only other feuds we would see them in at this point would be repeats, and we would probably be blasting WWE for a lack or originality. Plus, it’s cool to see Bryan and Punk, whose careers have mirrored each other so much, teaming up at a WWE event like Survivor Series. I think this rivalry is being done to put over the Wyatts, so I would expect them to be triumphant here. It shouldn’t hurt two individual stars too much to lose to a genuine tag team.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winners – Luke Harper and Erick Rowan by pinfall

M: Could be a good match, I like the Wyatt’s. Luke Harper is fast becoming a favourite of mine. I’m kinda disappointed with the use of Bray though. He hasn’t really done much since coming in. He’ll have an impact here no doubt, just wondering how much. Genuinely don’t know how to call this one. If Bray gets involves it could still go either way. Mmmmmm

Matt’s Prediction: ok I’m going with punk and Bryan. I think they’ll still have enough to do it after the interference. Punk and Bryan to win via pinfall.

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio vs John Cena (C)

A: Sadly I doubt this is the last time we’ll see these two face off for the belt this year, though we all know there’s no chance of a switch. The best we can hope for in my opinion is that Damien Sandow gets added to the mix for a triple threat Ladder/TLC match next month.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winner and STILL World Heavyweight Champion – John Cena by pinfall

M: Might aswell go straight to the prediction to be fair. It’s a poor rematch setup. They could’ve at least added a stipulation. How many times has Cena pulled out the ” I’m Injured but I’ll fight on” shenanigans?

Matt’s Prediction: Cena via pinfall.

WWE Championship: Big Show vs Randy Orton (C)

A: Again, there’s not much to be excited about here. It just feels like this is a transitional match to a Big Show-HHH encounter. Thankfully the fans don’t care, they were dead for this segment on Raw, which Vince will hopefully take as a sign. Bryan-Orton didn’t do as much for ratings or merchandise as they hoped, but at least Bryan was getting a reaction from the live crowd. What’s next for Orton though? If Big Show moves on to a HHH match next month, or at the Royal Rumble, then who’s left to challenge for the top title in the company? Punk and Bryan are tied up with the Wyatts (and Bryan just left a feud with Orton anyway), Cena is over in the World Title picture, and there isn’t really anybody else. It’s around New Year that WWE often likes to experiment though, so here’s hoping someone new is given the chance. Back to this match though, and it’s probably easy to see who I’m picking based on my speculation for the future.

Andrew’s Prediction: Winner and STILL WWE Champion – Randy Orton by pinfall

M: Again I might aswell go to the prediction. I don’t see anything but an Orton win here. Whether he gets help or not is the only interesting thing about this match.

Matt’s Prediction: Orton via pinfall

Final Thoughts

M: I’m not sure but I read that there may be a Ryback open challenge in there somewhere. If so then I’m picking Ryback to lose.

Ok so that’s the way I see it playing out. Hopefully I can pick up a few points on Andy but not likely as I think this is one of the most predictable PPV’s for a long time. I hope it’s good, but I don’t expect it.

A: To be honest, I’m surprised I wrote as much even vaguely related to that last match as I did, because nobody cares about it. For all the complaints about WWE not knowing how to book their midcard properly, it’s currently the most exciting part of the show because of the resurgence of tag team wrestling, and the demotion of Bryan and Punk. Personally, I also think a few fresh faces have helped (Goldust’s return, The Wyatts), but it says a lot about the WWE. Or rather, how badly they have been booking the main event now too. Also, I have only just seen the rumours about Ryback’s supposed open challenge. I too would pick Ryback to lose by pinfall, with his rumoured opponent being a returning Mark Henry.

There’s not a lot to be excited about for the main event picture here, but I thought last Monday’s Raw was an interesting one. It set the scene for a few new stories, so hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the poor run we have had to endure recently.

So, what do you think? Am I right in hoping we are about to have an upturn in quality of WWE programming? Have you gone for the same picks as us? Let us know by either commenting below or by emailing wrestlingsplebs@hotmail.com.
